Yes, your body still needs healthy fats to sustain certain bodily functions, like absorbing certain vitamins and minerals. While protein and carbohydrates only have 4 calories per gram, fat has 9 calories per gram. Unfortunately, the two often come hand in hand-foods like red meat and fish are both high-protein, and high-fat sources. If you're trying to up your protein intake without also loading up too many calories, you may need to watch how much fat you're in taking, too. That's where incorporating high-protein, low-fat foods can come in handy. And, if you're looking to subsequently lose body fat, you'll want to watch what protein-heavy foods you're intaking. But, there's no denying protein is high on the list of importance, especially if you're trying to build muscle. You need all three, but balancing how much of each to eat will change based on your body and personal goals. YOU MAY HAVE learned in your high school health class that there are three macronutrients that make up all foods: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.
